Welcome Niloofar Gharesi!
Niloofar joined the lab in January 2020 as a Ph.D. candidate in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience (IPN) at McGill University. She obtained her M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at Shiraz University. Her M.Sc. research was focused on the control of complex dynamical systems showing uncertainty, chaotic behaviors, and nonlinearities. She also developed adaptive intelligent algorithms for bearing fault detection using advanced machine learning techniques.
The main focus of her Ph.D. project is to expand the cognitive role of the premotor cortex (PM), and collaborate in the development of innovative computational methods for extracting complex signal dynamics from neurophysiological time series. She is working in close collaboration with Prof. John Kalaska from the University of Montreal, and her project is currently supported by the NSERC-CREATE program in Complex Dynamics.
Outside the lab, Niloofar enjoys traveling, learning new softwares, playing sports, and taking care of animals.
